Betting Words Explained
Accumulator
Accumulator is a general name for any bet where the payout from one selection is staked on the next selection. A Double is an accumulator bet with 2 selections and a treble is an accumulator bet with 3 selections.
You may place an accumulator bet with as many selections as you like. All selections in the accumulator must win for the whole bet to win.
Accumulators with more than 3 selections often have names such as fourfolds, fivefolds, etc.
Canadian
A Canadian bet requires 5 selections. You bet an equal stake on all the possible accumulator combinations, i.e. 10 Doubles, 10 Trebles, 5 Fourfolds and an accumulator on all 5 selections. The cost of this bet is 26 times your unit stake.
You will receive a payout for this bet if at least 2 of your 5 selections are winners. The payout increases with the number of winning selections.
Combination or Multiple Bets
Combination or multiple bets are bets on combinations of markets, selections or outcomes. Combining selections into multiple bets allows you to dramatically increase your potential payout.
Use your bet card as a calculator to determine the payouts for various combination bets.
Abandoned or refunded selections will be removed from any multiple bet and the payout adjusted.
Double
A double is a combination of two selections, with the payout from the first selection staked on the second market. Both selections must win for the whole bet to win.
Heinz, Super Heinz and Goliath
These bets are combinations of 6, 7 and 8 selections respectively. You bet an equal stake on all the possible accumulator combinations but not the singles. You will receive a payout for these bets if at least 2 of your selections are winners.
Interrelated Markets or Outcomes
Interrelated markets refer to markets where the result of one market will affect the price of another market.
An example would be a player to score 1st in a soccer match and his team to win the same match.
In most cases interrelated markets will be automatically flagged in your bet card and you will not be able to take a combination or multiple bet with the interrelated markets. If we do accept a bet that includes interrelated markets your stake will be split equally into as many bets as necessary to avoid interrelated markets in the same bet.
If you placed a R100 double on a player to score 1st and his team to win the same match, the stake would be split into two single bets of R50 each.
The split can be made at any stage, even after the result of the bet is known. It is up to the customer to ensure that markets are not interrelated.
Lucky 15
A Lucky 15 bet requires 4 selections. You bet an equal stake on all the possible accumulator combinations as well as the 4 single bets, i.e. 4 Singles, 6 Doubles, 4 Trebles and an accumulator on all 4 selections. The cost of this bet is 15 times your unit stake.
You will receive a payout for this bet if at least 1 of your 4 selections is a winner. The payout increases with the number of winning selections.
Patent
A Patent bet requires 3 selections. You bet an equal stake on all the possible accumulator combinations as well as the 3 single bets, i.e. 3 Singles, 3 Doubles and 1 Treble. The cost of this bet is 7 times your unit stake.
You will receive a payout for this bet if at least 1 of your 3 selections is a winner. The payout increases with the number of winning selections.
Single
A single is a fixed odds bet on one market, selection or outcome.
Ties and Dead Heat Rules
A dead heat is a tie for 1st place, or any other place included in the offered place terms, where specific odds for the tie have not been offered.
One of two alternative rules will be applied in such cases. The first option is to refund stakes on the tied selections.
The more commonly applied option, particular when there are more than two selections in an event, is to apply dead heat rules. In this case the payout on each selection is divided by the number of selections sharing the position or positions.
In some cases the application of this rule can appear confusing. For example assume there are 5 place positions available in a golf tournament, there is a clear winner and a clear 2nd placed player, and 4 golfers tie for 3rd place. The winner receives a full payout for 1st place and full place terms on any place bets. The 2nd placed player receives a full place payout. The four 3rd placed players share the remaining 3 place payouts (3rd, 4th and 5th place). This means that each is paid out 3/4ths of the full place payout.
Please refer to the rules on individual sports bets to confirm the application of tie and dead heat rules.
Treble
A treble is a combination of three selections, with the payout from the first selection staked on the second selection and the payout from the second selection staked on the third selection. All 3 selections must win for the whole bet to win.
Trixie
A Trixie bet requires 3 selections. You bet an equal stake on all the possible accumulator combinations, i.e. 3 Doubles and 1 Treble. The cost of this bet is 4 times your unit stake.
You will receive a payout for this bet if at least 2 of your 3 selections are winners. The payout on 3 winning selections is greater than the payout on 2 winning selections.
Win, Place and Each Way
In certain cases you will be given the choice of backing a selection to win or place in an event.
Place odds are a fixed fraction of the win odds and are offered for a selection to finish in a predetermined number of places. For example you may be offered ¼ of the win odds for a selection to finish in the top 3 places.
An each way bet is two equal bets, one to win and one to place.
Yankee
A Yankee bet requires 4 selections. You bet an equal stake on all the possible accumulator combinations, i.e. 6 Doubles, 4 Trebles and an accumulator on all 4 selections. The cost of this bet is 11 times your unit stake.
You will receive a payout for this bet if at least 2 of your 4 selections are winners. The payout increases with the number of winning selections.
